Q&A: Buying Gold thru commodities broker?

Question by Peilthetraveler: Buying Gold thru commodities broker?
I’m looking to purchase a contract of gold for physical delivery, but does anyone know how it works when taking delivery? I mean, can i just purchase 1 contract of gold (100 oz) thru a commodities broker and when the time is up, they contact me to make arrangements for delivery? You always hear of people buying and selling, but how do you take delivery of a contract?
Do they add a delivery charge? Or is there somewhere you can just go pick it up though? And in what denomination is the bullion? is it a 100 oz bar? or can you get it in a bunch of 1 oz bars? or 10 oz bars?

Best answer:

Answer by Clark Kent
If you don’t sell your contract by the expiration date, you will be delivered the gold and will have to pay the full price. When you buy it from the broker you only pay 5% or 10% as margin. You then need to pay the whole $ 90,000 or so minus your margin deposit.

Someone will be sure to contact you about where to deliver it.
